| Good news everyone!
Tim and co. are still alive over in Europe. I'm not sure how long that will last, but we can hope for the best.
I've stopped reading the ESRP manual for a little while, to try and fix the Cerfcube. It turns out that the computer is capable of accessing internet, but only after running:
dhclient
Okay, well... I downloaded the things we needed and I was going to remake the kernel, when I noticed that the computer no longer has iPKG installed. iPKG is required in order to package everything that will eventually be flashed onto the Cerfcube. There are eariler instructions that tell you how to get iPKG, and I thought I had followed them, but there is always the chance that it was accidentally skipped over, or didn't work properly.Just one obstacle after another
Anyway, the first meeting is tomorrow. I imagine CoRE 529 will be much more crowded afterwards. If all goes well though, Ivan will give us a laptop and we will not require the use of this room (the robot is down at Winlab).
COME BACK SOON TIM! The Cerfube listens to YOU at least.
| After talking to Ivan, I was handed a 300 page manual about a robotics platform called ESRP. I think I was given a choice on whether to continue with Cerfcube, or try to work with the Robotics program. I'm not clear on that, but I did begin reading the manual.
It seems like an interesting project. We would have to design behaviors for the robot to follow, and program it to recognize a variety of objects. The code for the ESRP program looks very similar to C++.
All is not well, however. The CoRE building was cleaned up when the sponors visited for the lecture series last tuesday. I once again do not know which Cerfcube is ours. Furthermore, I cannot test it because the computer that was set up to access the Cerfcube has been reformatted at least once, and does not have a DNS, so I can't even download all the necessary files to start over. Oh well... that project may end up being abandoned anyway.
| Familiar had been installed prior to our work in the summer, but it seems the computer we were working with was reformatted, and there doesn't seem to be a Vim editor onthe Cerfcube, which is necessary to make changes to the installed package. Today, our goal is to reinstall Familiar. | | |
